New Ag Minister

Labor Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney has been appointed as the new Agriculture Minister after Premier Daniel Alast month.

Ms Tierney takes over the portfolio from former ag minister Mary-Anne Thomas, who is now the Health and Ambulance Minister.

Ms Tierney retains her portfolios in Training and Skills and Higher Education.

Labor Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing has become the Minister for Water and Regional Development and Minister for Equality.

Ms Shing, whose electoral office is in Morwell, had formerly held parliamentary secretary roles.

The appointment comes after four senior state government ministers announced last month that they would not contest this year’s November election.

The reshuffle was sparked when former Deputy Premier James Merlino, Health Minister Martin Foley, Jobs Minister Martin Pakula and Police Minister Lisa Neville stepped down from cabinet.

Former Planning Minister Richard Wynne is also quitting politics after having previously announced his retirement earlier this year.

Some key changes mean that Jacinta Allan has become Deputy Premier as well as also taking on the role of overseeing the Commonwealth Games.

Other key portfolio changes include Lizzie Blandthorn as the new Planning Minister, and former Speaker Colin Brooks is Minister for Child Protection.

Sonya Kilkenny is Minister for Corrections and Steve Dimopoulos becomes Minister for Tourism.
